Matt Wilson is a senior associate attorney at Anton Garcia Law and a member of the Family Law practice group. He focuses his practice primarily on dissolution of marriage, post-judgment enforcement and modification, child custody, paternity, relocation, and family law appeals. Matt’s approach to the practice of law is to see the big picture and tailor an efficient and cost-effective plan towards the client’s objectives. If a case cannot be resolved short of trial, Matt has extensive experience litigating complex and high-conflict cases.
While in college, Matt was awarded the Pathways to Success Student Leadership Award. Matt graduated magna cum laude from the University of Northern Iowa, with a degree in Political Science. He earned his J.D. from Washburn University School of Law, in Topeka, Kansas.
Matt’s interest in family law began when he was part of his law school’s criminal and family law clinic, providing free representation to those in need. His interest in appellate law also started at the law clinic, with him co-authoring a successful brief on appeal to the United States Court of Appeals – 10th Circuit. Matt’s family law essay for the Florida Bar Exam was selected as a sample answer for future Bar study guide material.
Matt has published opinions in both the Second and Fifth District Court of Appeals and has conducted oral arguments at the Second District Court of Appeals, in Tampa and Lakeland. He also conducted oral arguments as a pro hac vice attorney for an appellate case in Ohio and worked on a successful appeal for a Florida Board Certification applicant.
Matt is a member of the Florida Bar and a member of their Family Law and Appellate Law Sections and a past member of The Canakaris American Inn of Court. He has also written for the Hillsborough County Bar Association Lawyer Magazine
In 2017 he was selected as a Super Lawyers Rising Star.
When he is not reading the latest published appellate court opinions, Matt enjoys reading autobiographies, watching documentaries, and attending music concerts. He is an avid baseball fan, enjoys playing softball, and on Fall Saturdays – rooting on the Iowa Hawkeyes. Matt is a member of the Society for American Baseball Research and tries to get to a different Major League ballpark each year – 20 and counting.
